Getdown Services, “Chrysalis” (Primordial Slot Machine EP / 2025)
Shout out dear friend Chris M., for alerting me to the wonderful British duo Getdown Services. They produce a kinda lo-fi dance-y vibe, like a just as earnest, but not as wide open Pulp. “Chrysalis” bops and floats along with spoken, almost rapped verses, bringing to mind near near-perfect song “Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth With Money in My Hand”. Funny and fun jams.
Armlock, “Strobe” (single / 2025)
Pitch-perfect slowcore from another exciting duo, Armlock. The cut’s simmering and hypnotic low-key rock brings to mind great Pinback moments. The chorus also veers close to the melody of the Muna song “Silk Chiffon,” so here’s your warning if you don’t want that stuck in your noggin.
